Fridge cools little

If your refrigerator has stopped cooling as it did before, don't worry, it is very common. We leave you a list of the most common causes.

What our fridge not cooling enough is a serious problem, since over the days the food will end up spoiling. Luckily, the fact that it is not cooling does not mean that it is broken; these are usually very common faults that we must take into account before calling a specialist.

What should I do if the refrigerator does not cool?

Before calling a technician we have to make sure that 3 of the parts of our refrigerator are completely clean, dirt on them can be one of the causes, so we have to look at:

  1. Yeah the mechanism underneath is clean. The entire mechanism that our refrigerator has at the bottom is very important, so we must check if it is clean. Temporarily turn off the power and be sure to thoroughly clean the dust from all components inside.
  2. If the freezer vents are clean. Vents are often used to improve efficiency, they use the cold from the freezer to cool part of the refrigerator. We will have to locate the area in which those ventilation holes are and make sure that they do not have ice.
  3. If the door seals are completely clean. The refrigerator must be completely sealed in order to cool, otherwise all your cooling efforts will be in vain. Check to see if the rubber gasket that covers the inside edge of the door is clean. When dirty it can become deformed and will not seal well. You can use a solution of diluted bleach.

The frost in the refrigerator must be removed once every 2 months, this way we will prevent it from spoiling.

Common problems

Lack of freezer spaceAs we have said before, the refrigerator benefits from the cold of the freezer, if we have the freezer full of boxes, Tupperware or simply too much food, it will not cool well. We have to leave small spaces so that the air flow is clear.

Turn the thermostatAnother very common mistake is accidentally pushing the thermostat. While rummaging through the refrigerator, cleaning it, or simply removing ingredients, we may have accidentally hit the thermostat. Make sure everything is as it was or reconfigure it.

Finally inspect the door switch for broken, those switches serve to intelligently stop cooling when the door is open. If that switch is broken it will simply have stopped cooling, we will have to see that it works correctly or that it is simply not stuck.

Having the freezer organized is something that will help us.

If your problem persists, you will have to call a technician, it could be anything from an internal error to a broken part. You may be interested in this article about common washing machine problems.
